Have you ever wanted to travel to India and learn the art of surface printing?  Here is your chance to learn from one of the best.

Lotta Jansdotter will be teaching a 3 day workshop about surface printing in the the Pink City, Jaipur located in Northern India.  Northern India is a ‘jewel’ in India’s crown and offers visitors a scenic and cultural wealth they would not find in a single region anywhere else in the world.

This is an 8 day Ace Camp where you be will exploring textile techniques using rubber printing blocks, creating fabric designs and focusing on your own creativity. Lotta will talk about inspiration, how to "see things" and how to create a design.  She will discuss what colours and motifs work and you will learn about repeats, materials to print with all the while keeping notes in your sketch book of your journey in India. The group will, of course, have hands on experience printing with their created blocks.

We will be visiting workshops, showing off traditional authentic carving and hand block printing factories and learn how the artisans print and about the traditions of their craft.  Andree Pouliot, an expert tour guide in Jaipur, will take us on a tour called The Block Print Story - an introduction as well as guide us through various other sites in Old City Jaipur learning about other textile crafts and their history.  We will visit the private atelier of Brigitte Singh - one of the finest block printers in the world.

During our visit in Jaipur we'll head to Anoki Museum of Hand Printing and see their comprehensive history of the art of block printing as well as beautiful and historical fabric samples and articles of clothing. Anoki shop has a lovely cafe and will be the perfect place for us to grab a quick lunch.

You will also have "days off" to explore, shop or re-visit sites that interest you.

Ace Camp + India / notes from Angela

  • To travel to India all nations need to obtain a travel visa from their government offices.
  • India can be overwhelming for the first time visitor. It is not for the fearful traveler nor for the person who is not open to cultures, plans delayed, or a schedule which may go completely and utterly wacky. Participants in this Ace Camp should not be weary travellers.
  • If you prefer a journey free of hassle and without being hectic - this may not be the Ace Camp for you.   Patience is a virtue in India.
  • This is for the calm traveler, the person who wants to travel to India with the safety of a group - but it is also for the adventurer, the person who wants to feel all their senses.  India, as beautiful and exotic as it is can be frustrating.
  • If you have specific allergies (i.e. peanuts, wheat, gluten, dairy, etc.), it will be harder, but not impossible, for you to find food that suits your needs. Many dishes are prepared with dairy and yogurt is often used to temper the spicier dishes.
  • Consult a doctor, nurse or health care provider, or visit a travel health clinic preferably six weeks before you travel.
  • Should you have any questions prior to registration please ask here.

There will be no refunds for this Ace Camp due to the planning and logistics involved. When you register be sure to know all you can about travelling to Northern India.
